The city of Virginia Beach is asking for public feedback on a state contract that allocates more than $56 million for mental health and substance abuse services for city residents.
The funding, which is $150,000 more than last year, would serve an estimated 13,830 city residents. Services include out-patient care, rehabilitation, consumer-monitoring and more, according to the agreement summary. The contract allots $12.5 million for highly intensive residential care, $7 million for rehabilitation and $8.5 million for case-management services.
Each community services board that contracts with the state must provide the contract to the public for comment. Allowing residents to see the breakdown of the contract promotes “knowledge, advocacy and get’s them plugged into the budget,” Adam Zubowsky of the city’s communications office said in a phone interview.
The 2017 state agreement likely will be added to the City Council’s Sept. 8 agenda, a press release stated.
