Sentara Princess Anne Hospital Auxiliary announces $30,000 in scholarships

VIRGINIA BEACH – Four nurses, five high schoolers and one medical school student are receiving $3,000 scholarships from the Sentara Princess Anne Hospital Auxiliary.

The 100-member auxiliary, which was organized soon after the hospital opened in 2011, provides assistance to local students pursuing healthcare careers. This year’s $30,000 in scholarships will put the group’s total awards at $112,500 in the past five years, according to a release. The money comes from fundraising, it said.

Recipients must attend a Virginia university or college. Applicants are judged on grades, leadership and community activities and recommendations, according to the release.

This year’s high school recipients are:

  • Bradley S. Hilliard, Ocean Lakes
  • Merly T. Konathapally, Ocean Lake
  • Luke T. Dyer, Kellam
  • Samuel P. Dyer, Kellam
  • Amanda N. Stamekovich, Salem

The other recipients are:

  • Ashley N. Demoss, a past recipient who won a renewal scholarship; the Christopher Newport University grad will attend Eastern Virginia Medical School.
  • Nimsi Gutierrez, Marygrace Manzano, Kasey Lupino and Rosalee Javier Sentara, all Princess Anne Hospital nurses who are continuing their education.

They will be honored at a reception Sunday at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital.
