A former William & Mary student has been found guilty in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court of the 2013 rape of a fellow student.
Jaiven Treyvon Knight, 20, of Durham, N.C., was found guilty last week at the conclusion of a two-day jury trial, according to court records. His sentencing has been set for July 13.
When Knight originally was tried in the case in February 2015, the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision and a mistrial was declared.
Knight was recruited to William & Mary to play football. According to Tribe Athletics Spokesperson Pete Clawson, Knight practiced with the team briefly in the summer of 2013 but never appeared in a game. He left the team at the end of August that year.
According to court records, Knight was accused of raping a then-20-year-old William & Mary junior on Aug. 25, 2013, while attending a party at the woman’s home on Lafayette Street.
Testimony given at the 2015 trial indicated both Knight and the victim were intoxicated when the sexual assault occurred.
Knight was arrested and charged with the assault in April 2014, by which time he had dropped out of school and left the William & Mary campus.
