Early voting begins Thursday for Aug. 4 dual-party primary

WILLIAMSBURG — Early voting for the Aug. 4 dual-party primary begins Thursday, June 18, for City of Williamsburg voters.

Democratic ballots will include the race for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, where candidates Salaam Bhatti, Elizabeth Dempsey Beggs, Tim S. Cywinski, Jason S. Knapp, Ericka W. Kopp, Shannon L. Taylor and Melvin Tull are seeking the Democratic nomination. Republican ballots will include the U.S. Senate primary, featuring Bert Mizusawa, Kim Farington and David E. Williams. Registered voters may choose one party ballot.

Early voting will take place at the Voter Registrar’s Office inside the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St.

The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through July 31, with additional weekend hours scheduled for July 19 and 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 25 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

City offices will be closed June 18 and 19, though the Voter Registrar’s Office will remain open June 18 and closed June 19.

Polls on Election Day, Aug. 4, will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters must cast ballots at their designated polling places on Election Day, not at the Municipal Building.

Absentee ballots may be requested through the Virginia Department of Elections or by calling the Williamsburg Voter Registrar’s Office at 757-220-6157. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is July 24.

Completed absentee ballots may be returned by mail or placed in the drop box outside the Municipal Building. Postage for mailed ballots is prepaid.
