The Commonwealth Transportation Board has awarded a contract for the second segment of a project to widen and reconstruct Interstate 64.
Allan Myers VA Inc. of Glen Allen will work on seven miles of I-64 located in Newport News, James City County and York County.
The project includes widening the I-64 corridor from 1.05 miles west of Route 199 (exit 242) to near Lee Hall (exit 247) where the Segment I project ends; adding a travel lane and a shoulder lane in each direction; and rehabilitating existing travel lanes.
The contract is valued at $138.8 million. Construction will begin this fall and the project is set to be finished by the summer of 2019.
