With no opponent running against him, Benjamin Hahn has retained his position as the York-Poquoson Commonwealth’s Attorney.
The win means Hahn, a Republican who was first elected in 2011, will serve a second four-year term.
“I am humbled and honored to be able to serve the citizens of York County and the City of Poquoson for another term as Commonwealth’s Attorney,” he wrote in a statement to WYDaily.
The Virginia Department of Elections shows Hahn earned 12,840 total votes for 98.62 percent of the vote. Write-in candidates tallied 180 votes.
York County and the City of Poquoson have 51,608 total registered voters.
All election results are considered unofficial until a formal results review, which begins Wednesday, is completed and all provisional ballots are counted.
“Government’s first duty and highest obligation is to ensure public safety and security. The bedrock foundation of public safety, however, is public trust,” Hahn wrote. “Public trust in law enforcement is essential to seeing that the guilty are punished and the innocent are protected. I am forever grateful for the trust that our citizens have shown for our efforts to enforce the criminal laws in York County and Poquoson. I will strive, during the next four years, to further justify and deepen the public’s trust in our endeavors.”
