James City County Cub Scout Pack 414 memorialized the men and women who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in a ceremony at the James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department Friday night.

In addition to honoring the fallen, the Scouts also recognized and thanked the community’s police officers, firefighters, first responders and military personnel.

Led by Major Angela Dereix (Ret.), who organized much of the event and served as Master of Ceremonies, and Darrell Wahls, 414’s troop leader, the ceremony included a poem reading, fife and drum performance and remarks from Chris Herion, a Williamsburg native and pilot who flew over New York City on the day of the attacks.

More than 200 people turned out to witness the ceremony and pay their respects.
