Virginia wants its citizens to get ready for hurricane and flash flooding season, so the state is offering a tax-free week to purchase certain items needed in those emergency situations.

The tax-free week starts at 12:01 a.m. Monday and ends at midnight Sunday.

Items exempt from the sales tax include everyday items such as batteries and flashlights, bottled water and coolers, smoke detectors and cell phone chargers.
