YPSO Finds Explosive Device in Mobile Home Park

A case out of Prince William County involving a man accused of manufacturing bombs led officials to his home in York County, where they suspected he had more explosive devices.

Through a search around midnight Tuesday, authorities found an incendiary device in Alan Michael Blischak’s mobile home, which is located off Hampton Highway.

Specifics on the incendiary device have not been disclosed.

York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office carried out the search warrant on behalf of the Prince William County Fire Marshal’s Office, YPSO Lt. Dennis Ivey said.

Blischak, a Woodbridge resident, was arrested Thursday in Prince William County on charges of manufacturing explosive devices, said Prince William County Battalion Chief and Deputy Fire Marshal Tom Jarman.

Authorities asked residents living near Blischak’s home in Bethel Mobile Home Village to evacuate while his trailer was searched, but some refused to leave their homes, Ivey said.

Residents were allowed back in their homes by 1:05 a.m., and officials cleared the scene at around 3 a.m. after securing the device.

Blischak was arrested on Thursday in the Dale Forest Apartments in Woodbridge after emergency responders were dispatched to the Woodridge apartment complex for a hazmat situation, according to a news release.

Maintenance workers told the emergency responders they saw a “suspicious device” in Blischak’s apartment, and residents in all 45 apartments in the complex were evacuated while officials with the Prince William County Police, Fire Department and Hazmat Team and the Virginia State Police Bomb Squad searched the residence.

Blischak was charged with three felony counts of manufacturing bombs or bomb materials and one felony count of threats to burn in Prince William County.

Jarman said the search on the York County home was executed after Blischak asked for a bond hearing.

“The [Prince William County] Commonwealth’s Attorney was concerned enough based on what we found at our location up here that there may be additional materials down there,” Jarman said.
