High winds mixed with low humidity has increased the chances of a fire starting on the Peninsula today.
The National Weather Service in Wakefield issued a special issue statement for Tuesday afternoon, saying the Historic Triangle and its surrounding localities may be at risk.
Winds are expected to gust up to 30 mph while humidity levels drop to between 20 and 30 percent, which increases the risk for fires to ignite easily.
NWS encouraged citizens to be mindful when discarding smoking materials and litter, and cautious when using machinery and other items such as matches or lighters.
The burning of items is prohibited before 4 p.m. each day until April 30 in Virginia.
