No one was home Thursday morning when a fire destroyed a single-story house in Kristiansand neighborhood near Norge Elementary School.
Bill Apperson, a spokesperson with the James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department, said a James City County ambulance was on its way back to Fire Station 1 when the medics saw smoke coming from the area of Kristiansand Drive and called the volunteer fire department.
Firefighters responded to 160 Nina Lane at around 9:55 a.m. to find the house fully engulfed in flames.
It took about 30 minutes for the volunteer firefighters and fire personnel from York County and James City County to get the fire under control. A total of five engines, one ladder truck and four medics responded to the scene.
Apperson said they were fortunate to be around an area with ample hydrants.
“We had a good water supply,” he said.
The fire resulted in a total loss of the house, Apperson said. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
