Persistent cold weather and snowy conditions have forced the cancellation of the 2015 Colonial Half-Marathon.
The race was originally scheduled to be held this weekend on the campus of the College of William & Mary.
“Our primary concern was for the safety of the participants,” a message posted to the event’s website read. “There were long stretches of the half marathon course that would have been unsafe due to the recent winter storms and prevailing cold front.”
The 5K and fun run portions of the event will still be held Sunday using an alternate course map available here.
The new route will require road closings throughout campus.
From 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, access to campus from Monticello Avenue through Jamestown Road, along with entries at Richmond Road onto Brooks Street, Dillard Avenue and Gooch Drive, will be closed.
Parking along Brooks Street from Ukrop Way to McClurg Drive will be closed beginning at 7 a.m.
Additionally, Green Line bus service will be suspended from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and the Williamsburg Trolley will be diverted around campus.
