Update: One lane of Interstate 64 East at milemarker 224 has been cleared after police say a tractor-trailer jackknifed Tuesday morning. No injuries have been reported.

Original Post: The Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting moderate snow and ice on roads throughout the Historic Triangle from the winter storm, calling travel “dangerous” throughout the area.
Drivers are asked to remain off the roads unless it is “absolutely essential” as “conditions will remain treacherous on most roadways,” according to a VDOT news release.
The entirety of Interstate 64 in the area is covered in moderate snow or ice. As of 5:45 a.m., Virginia State Police troopers were en route to the James City County-New Kent County line at milemarker 224 on Interstate 64 East, where a tractor-trailer has jackknifed and blocked both lanes.
Cranston’s Mill Pond Road, which connects Chickahominy and Jolly Pond roads in James City County has been closed since Monday night.
VDOT is reporting moderate snow or ice on all major roads in James City and York counties, including Route 199, Richmond Road, Route 17, the Coleman Bridge, Route 143, Route 5 and all bridges and ramps.
There is no information posted about road conditions in the City of Williamsburg.
VDOT began pretreating the roads with brine before the storm arrived. Crews worked throughout the night, with 46 trucks assigned to the Peninsula. VDOT’s goal is to have all major roads passable within 48 hours.
The Virginia State Police is reporting 80 traffic crashes, 36 disabled vehicles and 124 total calls for service in Hampton Roads between 4 and 8 p.m. Monday. More recent figures are not yet available.
