
More snow is predicted before 10 a.m. Tuesday, but meteorologists are predicting less than a half inch of accumulation in the Historic Triangle in addition to the snowfall from Monday night’s snowstorm.
The area was hit with as much as 6 inches of snow overnight, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, with the last flakes falling in the early morning.
Meanwhile, nearby Newport News reportedly received about 2 inches of snow, and officials say Providence Forge received about 5 inches.
Temperatures are expected to remain around 29 degrees Tuesday with winds blowing at about 8 to 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
The Historic Triangle is under a winter weather warning until noon Tuesday, and officials from the Virginia Department of Transportation are warning citizens to stay off the roads as crews work in full force to clear the snow.
A high of 15 degrees is expected for tonight with temperatures rising to 34 degrees Wednesday and a 20 percent chance of snow after noon Wednesday.
Frigid temperatures will continue in the second half of the week, with lows in the single digits and highs reaching up to 37 by Saturday.
