The BP station on Richmond Road in Toano has closed, but its owner plans to reopen the station later this year.
Mohamed Shata, who owns both the station and the neighboring McLean Grocery, said he was renting the station out to an operator who kept the station open until early January.
Unless he finds someone else to take over the operation of the station, Shata plans to have it back in service under his management by June or July.
He said he acquired both McLean Grocery and the BP station 23 years ago, but has rented out the gas station during that time.
The two businesses are located on the main strip through Toano, about equidistant between James City County’s Fire Station One and Toano Middle School.
There is another BP station about a mile north of Toano at Anderson’s Corner.
