York County School Board Chairman Mark Medford has announced he will seek another term.

Medford represents District 3 on the School Board, which includes the Edgehill, Seaford and Yorktown areas of York County.

He was first elected to the school board in 2000, and has served as its chairman since 2013. Medford also served as its chairman in 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2011.

A York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputy for 28 years, Medford currently serves as its D.A.R.E. coordinator and administrative sergeant.

He said his experience as a D.A.R.E. officer and on the school board provided him with valuable experience that would be of use to the school division.

“I have spent over 24 years working in all of our schools as a D.A.R.E. officer,” Medford said in a news release. “I understand the needs of our staff, students and the community. I see first hand the success of our educational system. I have always been dedicated to quality in public education and to the children of York County.”

He is a graduate of York County schools, and has children in the division.

Medford said he would continue to focus on increasing student achievement during his time on the board.

“I feel great about what I have been able to contribute as a School Board Member,” Medford said in a press release. “Many of our division’s goals have been reached. But as many people know, public education is ever-changing. There is still a lot of work to be done as a school board member. I hope to have the opportunity to be re-elected to the office so that I may continue to move the York County School Division and its students forward to be successful lifelong learners.”

The School Board consists of five members elected to four-year terms representing five geographic districts in the county.

All five seats will be up for election during the Nov. 3 general election.
