A Richmond group and the York River State Park are working together to give people an opportunity to contemplate in nature Saturday.

Led by Outdoor Afro, an organization that aims to reconnect African-Americans to natural spaces and one another through recreational activities, the All Lives Matter Healing Hike involves a peaceful, 2-mile walk through the York River State Park.

“The idea for the hike is in response to the police shootings in New York and Missouri and the need for all of us (humans/people of earth) to come together in the name of healing and peace,” said Outdoor Afro leader Deidre Bryant in an email.

The hike will be led by York River State Park ranger John Gresham Jr., who also serves as the park’s education support specialist. He will be pointing out some of the park’s history as well as noteworthy plant and animal life during the walk.

The All Lives Healing Hike will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the York River State Park.

Participants will meet at the amphitheater behind the visitor’s senter at 55226 Riverview Road in Williamsburg.

Parking is $4.[/stextbox]

Gresham said the walk is not a political protest, but a reflection on the tough year.

“This is not really a social-political thing; this is the chance for people to come out, clear their heads, think and reflect,” he said.

The beginner-friendly hike will take place on the Mattaponi and Woodstock Pond trails. It is free to the public, with a $4 fee for all-day parking.

Participants will meet at the amphitheater behind the visitor’s center at 10 a.m. Saturday at 5526 Riverview Rd. in Williamsburg.
