A local laundromat has suffered about $50,000 in property damage after a mechanical failure in the boiler system caused a fire in the building.
Fire units from James City County responded to Kingsmill Laundry on Pocahontas Trail at around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning and saw flames coming from the roof in the rear part of the one-story building, Assistant Fire Chief Miles Pettengell said.
No one was in the building at the time, and firefighters were able to bring the fire under control with the help of the building’s sprinkler system by 5:37 a.m. and extinguish it by 6 a.m.
Pettengell said the fire damaged the mechanical room, the boiler in the room and parts of the roof, resulting in about $50,000 in property damage.
No firefighters or civilians were injured, Pettengell said.
