A 44-year-old man has been arrested after deputies found him at the scene with a 7-year-old who was putting on her clothes in the back of a car.
York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 200 block of Old York-Hampton Highway around 12:40 p.m. Saturday after receiving a call about a possible burglary, according to a post on YPSO’s Facebook page.
Upon arrival, a patrol lieutenant found Melvin Lamont Randall, who was “acting suspicious,” and a green Saturn parked in an alley between a garage and a residence, according to the post.
Randall, a Williamsburg resident, was detained. When more deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a 7-year-old girl putting her clothes on in the back seat of the car, the post states.
Upon further investigation, Randall was arrested and charged with a felony count of taking indecent liberties with a child.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
