A 22-year-old Hampton man arrested for stealing sunglasses from a store on Richmond Road was found with trace amounts of cocaine in his wallet when admitted to jail, according to police.

James City County Police received a report Friday from the manager of the Sunglass Hut on Richmond Road, who said she noticed sunglasses were missing from a display while two men were shopping.

Video surveillance showed one of the men, later identified as Tyler Dean Williams, taking two pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses and one pair of Oakley sunglasses, according to Stephanie Williams-Ortery with the James City County Police Department.

She said officers located the Williams in the area and he confessed to taking the three pairs of sunglasses valued at more than $600.

Williams was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail for his booking and was found to have a folded dollar bill with a white powdery substance in his wallet. The substance tested positive for cocaine, Williams-Ortery said.

Williams was charged with felony shoplifting and felony possession of a schedule I or II controlled substance.
