The James City County Police Department will offer a free firearm safety class to the public Sept. 16.
The class will go over firearm safety techniques, as well as proper handling and storage. The class does not include hands-on training, and personal firearms should be left at home in a secure location, according to a news release from James City County.
Pre-registration is required for the class. Call Master Police Officer Alan McDowell at 603-6026 to register.
The class meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Law Enforcement Center at 4600 Opportunity Way.
The class is made possible by grant funding from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project ChildSafe.
