york poquoson sheriffThe York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a wave of burglaries at homes in Tabb, with three more reports coming in since July 30.

The first burglary was reported July 17. Since then, deputies have received reports of eight more burglaries or attempted burglaries in neighborhoods including Running Man, Coventry, Greenlands, Patriot Village, Sherwood Forest, Hawks Landing and Taylor Farms.

Investigators believe the incidents are connected.

“We don’t know exactly how many people we’re dealing with,” said YPSO Capt. Troy Lyons. “We’ve got four different vehicle descriptions seen in these neighborhoods. The one common denominator is that one of the vehicles has a loud exhaust system.”

The latest round of burglaries started July 30 on Pamlico Run in Running Man. A homeowner saw a ladder leaning against a neighbor’s home. The ladder was there earlier in the day, and the homeowner thought the neighbor may have had someone performing work on his or her home, according to a post on the YPSO Facebook page.

The neighbor saw the ladder in the same position later that night, also noticing an open window near the ladder and an open back door. He called deputies, who responded and discovered two flat-screen televisions, two laptop computers and two iPads were missing from the home.

On that same day, deputies responded to a home on Robinhood Drive in Sherwood Forest and found a front door to a vacant, unoccupied home forced open, according to the post. Nothing was missing.

At 4:15 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a residence on Glebe Spring Lane in Taylor Farms where they found a brick thrown through the dining room window of a house, a method of entry seen in past burglaries.

The homeowner reported seeing a dark two-door car with a high spoiler on its trunk leaving the neighborhood at a high rate of speed after the window was broken, according to the post.

At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a home on Potter Lane in the Hawks Landing subdivision. A neighbor to that home told deputies his dog started barking at something outside at about 11:30 p.m. Friday. On Sunday, while he was out in his yard, he noticed a broken window and a screen at the back of his neighbor’s house on a deck.

Deputies found the home ransacked. The owner was out of town, so investigators are not sure if anything was taken, according to the post.

Lyons said several of the burglaries happened when at least one person was at home. He urged people to call 911 at the first sign of noise or suspicious activity, noting deputies would prefer to respond to a house and find nothing wrong than have a delayed response because a homeowner did not immediately report something suspicious.

“Anything suspicious, people, vehicles, call us,” Lyons said. “We’d love to come down and figure out who they are. All we may be able to do is talk to the folks, but at least we can put names to faces and determine if they belong or not.”

Lyons said investigators have received information about four vehicles potentially involved in the burglaries: The two-door car with a spoiler, a light green sport utility vehicle or crossover, a dark sedan with a loud muffler and a white four-door car. One victim reported seeing an approximately 6-foot male with curly hair wearing red sweatpants and a black T-shirt inside his or her home.

Anyone who hears glass breaking or suspicious noises and thinks someone could possibly be in the home is encouraged to call 911 immediately, according to the post. Anyone with information on the burglaries and attempted burglaries is asked to call Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
