The former Lexington George Washington Inn & Conference Center on Merrimac Trail is now a Ramada Inn.

The 250-room hotel and conference center closed in September 2011, about three years after it underwent about $4 million in renovations. Following its closure, the hotel stayed vacant until early July, when the new Ramada Inn opened.

Since its September 2011 closure, it has been auctioned to credit unions that loaned money to its prior owner and purchased by a new ownership group intent on converting it to a senior housing building. It was then sold to Keys Hospitality, LLC, which has completed several upgrades to the hotel and rebranded it as a Ramada Inn, according to a news release from Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer.

The hotel was purchased from the credit unions by Merrimac Partners LLC, which aimed to open a 200-unit senior housing building after extensive renovations. It would have contained 70 assisted living units, making it the first senior living building in York County to offer the service, however the plans fell through. Another company has since eyed a parcel of land in Tabb for an assisted living center.

The hotel’s restaurant has been rebadged and is called The Copper Scroll.

The new Ramada Inn is located at 500 Merrimac Trail in Upper York County.
