A 55-year-old York County woman is facing a felony malicious wounding charge after she allegedly assaulted a neighbor who approached her to apologize because her dog barked at her.

The incident occurred in the Creekside Landing subdivision in Upper York County at about 7:55 p.m. May 31. The woman approached Kathleen Lofton Horner to apologize for the barking dog when Horner allegedly assaulted her, said Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Horner allegedly knocked the woman to the ground, causing a laceration requiring two staples to shut, Ivey said. There was also bruising on her face, neck and arm, and she sustained an injury to her nose.

Horner faces one felony count of malicious wounding and one misdemeanor count of assault. She will appear in York-Poquoson District Court at 8:45 a.m. June 16.
