york poquoson sheriffA man tried to rob another man at knifepoint in the parking lot of the Tabb Walmart early Sunday, but the attacker fled before he got away with anything after the victim punched him in the face.

The attempted robbery took place at 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The victim told the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office that a man approached him from behind and pushed him in the shoulder to turn him around. The would-be robber produced a knife at that point and asked for the victim’s wallet, YPSO Capt. Jimmy Richardson said.

The victim told deputies he panicked and then punched the man in the right side of his face. The would-be robber stumbled backward and then ran away on foot.

Richardson said the culprit is an unidentified black male in his mid-20s who wore a gray hoodie sweatshirt and a blue skull cap with the words “I love NY” printed on it. He said deputies checked the area around the store but could not find anyone matching the description.

Deputies are working with Walmart to produce video footage of the attempted robbery. The would-be robber did not get away with anything, and the victim was not hurt in the incident.

Anyone with information on the identity of the would-be robber should contact Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
