A James City County man suffered severe burns after his mobile home in Marston’s Trailer Park on Centerville Road caught fire early Saturday.

Units from the James City County Fire Department, James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department and York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to the a reported fire at 1:11 a.m. Saturday. The first firefighters on scene found a single-wide trailer fully engulfed by fire, according to a news release from James City County.

Once on scene, fire crews positioned themselves to knock down the fire via exterior hose lines, but that initial response was delayed by a downed power line arcing in the front yard. Once the power line was secured, efforts to fight the fire continued.

The fire was under control by 2:30 a.m. The only person in the trailer suffered severe burns to both arms, head and neck. He was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News and was later transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, according to the release.

The scene was cleared by 3:34 a.m. The James City County Fire Marshal’s Office has visited the site to try to determine what caused the fire to start. That investigation remains active as of Monday.

Marston’s Trailer Park is located immediately off Centerville Road near Lightfoot.
