The York County School Division has named Tabb High School history teacher Doug Roper as the 2015 teacher of the year.

Because the teachers of the year are selected so late in the school year, the honor is applied for the following year.

Roper has spent 36 years in the division as a teacher. During that time, he has also worked as a coach for multiple athletic teams.

“Doug’s commitment to his students, his school, and our community serves as an inspiration to his fellow educators,” York County Superintendent Eric Williams said. “From the school level to the division level, each of our teacher of the year recipients demonstrate a commitment to education that is clearly recognized by all who have had a chance to be in their classrooms.”
