A study on weather in Williamsburg has received international attention.
Chelsei Fox, a sixth-grade teacher at Grafton Middle School, was named a 2014 Global Forum Educator Award winner. She was one of 15 selected for this honor by Microsoft in Education, and the only winner honored from the U.S.
The MIE Global Forum recognizes and celebrates the achievements of educators who are preparing students for life in the 21st century. Out of 22,000 teachers who applied, 260 were chosen to attend the Global Forum in Barcelona last week.
As part of her transformative learning project, Fox’s students studied severe weather and created digital content on specific weather occurrences.
For her “Wild, Wild, Weather” program, Fox earned second runner-up in the “Learning Beyond the Classroom” category.
Finance Teacher Wins Award from Global Accounting Firm
Gina Mancuso-Sidhu, who teaches economics and personal finance at Grafton High School, has earned a large prize to continue educating young people on money matters.
Mancuso-Sidhu received the grand prize in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Financial Literacy Award program. With that comes $5,000 that will be used toward Grafton’s economics and personal finance program.

PwC recognizes teachers who help students develop responsible financial behaviors through classroom education and by connecting lessons to real-world applications.
For the award, Mancuso-Sidhu submitted a three-minute video of her students working in groups and analyzing stocks to create a $500,000 diversified portfolio.
