The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 7 a.m. Thursday as meteorologists with the National Weather Service are predicting wintry weather tonight.
On Wednesday afternoon, there is a chance of snow, mainly after 3 p.m. That will give way to rain, snow, freezing rain and sleet before 2 a.m., and then freezing rain and sleet between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. and rain after 4 a.m. NWS is predicting new ice accumulation of less than 0.1 of an inch, with new snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.
On Thursday, it will rain before 1 p.m. before transitioning to rain and snow. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible. The weather will clear up by Friday, when it will be mostly sunny with a high near 45.
The snow and sleet could lead to slick and hazardous travel conditions as it accumulates on roadways. The snow is expected to be heavy and wet and may weigh down tree limbs, causing them to fall. That could lead to sporadic power outages. NWS advises motorists in the area to use caution while driving as there may be slippery roads and limited visibility.
This storm is expected to affect the entire state, with up to a foot of snow across many places. The Historic Triangle is on the edge of the pocket of the state not expected to be hit hard by the storm. Localities as close as New Kent County are under a winter storm warning due to this storm.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency on Tuesday to allow state agencies to be ready to assist localities in responding to the storm. The Virginia Department of Transportation is conducting anti-icing operations on major roadways across the state.

Schools:
The York County School Division has canceled all after-school activities for Wednesday. Information about rescheduling events and activities will be provided by individual schools.
Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools has canceled all activities after 5 p.m. School officials will monitor the weather and make an announcement as to whether school will be open on Thursday by 5:30 a.m. If no announcement is made, schools will open at the regular time.
Government Services:
The Quarterpath Recreation Center will close at 5 p.m. All evening activities have been canceled.
The James City County Chesapeake Bay Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed. Agenda items will be dealt with at the board’s March 12 meeting.
The James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center will close at 7 p.m.
