The York County Board of Supervisors will elect a new chairman and vice chairman for 2014 at its organizational meeting Tuesday.
Supervisors Walt Zaremba and Don Wiggins have served as the chairman and vice chairman for 2013, respectively. Should the board follow its usual pattern, Wiggins will become the chair while a new vice chairman will be voted in. In 11 of the past 13 years, the previous year’s vice chairman has become the next year’s chairman.
Supervisor Sheila Noll said at the last meeting of 2013 that she wants to chair the board in 2014. She said she had been promised the job for 2013 only to see that promise broken at the last minute. Noll was the vice chairwoman for 2012. She served as chairwoman in 1999 but never since.
The board will also vote on its rules and procedures for 2014. The supervisors could choose to alter existing rules, such as the board meeting on the first and third Tuesday of each month. The only change currently before the supervisors is a modification to the consent calendar. Smaller issues the board must vote on are consolidated in the calendar, where the board casts one vote that applies to all items in it.
The change would allow the supervisors to discuss individual items on the calendar without having to pull that item and vote on it separately.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday at York Hall and is open to members of the public.
