Constitutional Conversations, an award-winning monthly community discussion about the U.S. Constitution, returns to the Williamsburg Regional Library at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 9.
Each month for eight consecutive months of the year, adults and children gather at the library for age-appropriate conversations about the U.S. Constitution. Attendees are split into two groups: middle school and high school students comprising one group and adults comprising the other.
This month, the topic of discussion for students will be “Affirmative Action: Hurting or Helping?” and for adults the topic will be “Expansion of Congress’ Power and the ‘Necessary and Proper’ Clause.” The discussions will be led by law students from the College of William & Mary.
In 2011, Constitutional Conversations earned the library an award from the Virginia Public Library Directors’ Association. A W&M alumna, Julie Silverbrook, started the program while she was a student of the college. Silverbrook is now the head of Constitutional Sources Project, a nonprofit that advocates research, understanding and discussion of the U.S. Constitution.
