York County Board of Supervisors Chairman Walt Zaremba welcomed Pamela Franz to the Williamsburg Regional Library Board of Trustees Tuesday.
Franz is the first representative from York County on WRL’s board. WRL serves upper York County residents who are isolated from the rest of the county due to the sprawling tracts of land that make up the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station and Cheatham Annex.
The York County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with WRL in September to continue to provide service to upper county residents. As a part of that agreement, York County received a voting seat on the board of trustees, which provides oversight of the library’s operations.
“We have had a relationship for a long time, and as we move forward through the years, it’s become a much closer relationship,” Zaremba said. He represents the first district of the county, which shares a border with Williamsburg and much of eastern James City County. He said citizens of his district are “very dependent” on WRL and on its James City County branch in Norge.
Zaremba told Franz she will be “charting a path” for future York County representatives on the library’s board.
“It’s an honor to be selected,” Franz said Tuesday. She said she was born and raised in Williamsburg.
