Miranda Henning was looking for something different for the name of her dog grooming business—a phrase that people would remember.
She settled on “The Fuzzy Butt Stops Here.” The full-service grooming salon opened Monday at 3715 Strawberry Plains Road in Williamsburg.
Henning said it was “surreal” to be opening her own business. She previously was an employee of Paws for Reflection, on Olde Towne Road, which was closed as of Monday.
She and her husband have one dog, eight cats, and chickens. “Our lives revolve around animals,” she explained.
It was Henning’s personality that led a manager to move her to the grooming department at the PetSmart where she worked nine years ago. After working as a groomer for Paws for Reflection, she is happy to be opening her own, larger space.
Henning brought a full schedule of clients with her from Paws for Reflection, along with The Fuzzy Butt Stops Here’s other employee. The salon is appointment-only and is currently booked solid through Christmas, but Henning said she will accept walk-ins upon availability and is also looking into hiring more staff.
“One thing I don’t want to do is turn anybody away,” she explained.
The salon is an entirely new building, which Henning said allowed her accommodate more grooming stations. The Fuzzy Butt Stops Here has multiple spots for bathing, and an open floor plan that allows dogs to move about in the grooming area.
Henning explained that The Fuzzy Butt Stops Here will take care of one pet at a time, and unlike salons that kennel dogs who are waiting, furry patrons here have free range. She is also planning an outdoor run, so dogs can be safely let outside for walks.
The salon offers haircuts, baths and nail grinding. It also boasts “blueberry facials,” an all-natural tearless shampoo used to whiten and brighten dog faces. Henning said it’s not available anywhere else in town.
There are a number of amenities for humans, as well. Henning was shooting for a homey feeling—The Fuzzy Butt Stops Here has a cozy lobby, currently decorated for the holiday season. In addition to the couch and free coffee, a television is on the way.
“I really wanted to keep this as a family,” Henning said. “You’re not a number here.”
