Man Parks Car in Middle of Hampton Highway, Tries to Steal Two Other Vehicles

york poquoson sheriffA Hampton man was arrested in York County on Monday afternoon after he allegedly parked his car in the middle of Hampton Highway and tried to steal two other vehicles.

The incident began when the man parked his vehicle in the middle of the road shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, causing the driver of a pickup truck to stop to see what was going on. Lt. Dennis Ivey of the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said the driver of the parked vehicle, 31-year-old Steven Slusher, allegedly entered the pickup truck through its passenger door and tried to take the keys.

Ivey said the driver of the pickup truck grabbed his keys and got out of the truck. Slusher then ran toward a woman parking her car at a nearby business. He allegedly grabbed her by the arm and attempted to take her keys. She then punched him in the face, ran away and called 911.

Deputies from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office responded to her call, finding Slusher in the area, where he was taken into custody. He is facing two felony counts of attempted robbery and one misdemeanor assault charge. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Slusher will appear at 8:45 a.m. Nov. 20 in York-Poquoson District Court.
