A national home health and hospice provider opened its doors for business in Upper York County in October, creating more than 10 jobs with more likely on the way.

Gentiva Hospice is now operating out of a suite on 217 Bulifants Blvd., located off Mooretown Road near Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. The new Gentiva branch offers in-home hospice services for a range of patients, from those who live in their homes to those who live in assisted living communities. No hospice services are provided at the Gentiva location.

“[Our services] fit the population very well,” said Samantha Lewton, a hospice specialist at the new branch who works with incoming clients to educate them about services offered by the company. “We have a Richmond branch, a Colonial Heights branch and a Virginia Beach branch, so this filled in that gap in the middle. It allows us to have all areas covered from Richmond all the way to the Southside.”

The new branch will serve patients in the Historic Triangle as well as Newport News and Hampton.

“The Gentiva family of companies is known nationwide for its compassion, clinical excellence and uncompromising service, and we are pleased to now bring our quality services to Williamsburg and its surrounding areas,” Lewton said in a news release announcing the opening.

Hospice services offered by the new branch include in-patient medical equipment and related medications, pain and symptom management, emotional and spiritual support and a comprehensive bereavement program, according to the release. The branch accepts Medicare, Medicaid and many private health insurance companies for many of its services.

The release said the branch is actively hiring, directing potential applicants to this website.

“We’re certainly very happy to have [Gentiva] in our business community. It’s certainly a good thing to be bringing business to Lightfoot,” said Melissa Davidson, the senior business development representative for the York County Office of Economic Development.

She said she is happy to see another medical business joining the others that currently reside in that part of the county. In addition to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, there are numerous specialty practitioners operating out of a few business parks in the area.
