The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has charged a 55-year-old North Carolina man in connection to July a string of nighttime commercial burglaries along George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17).

YPSO Deputy Mike Russell said the burglaries were reported on either the morning of July 17 or July 19. Paul Augustus Fuller was arrested by law enforcement in Wilson, N.C. He is facing nine counts of burglary, 10 counts of possession of burglary tools, five counts of grand larceny, four counts of petit larceny and two counts of misdemeanor property destruction.

He is currently being held without bond by law enforcement in Wilson. The businesses he is alleged to have burglarized are as follows:

  • Bead, Nail & Hair on the 1200 block of Route 17
  • Great Atlantic Spas on the 1900 block of Route 17
  • Super Cuts on the 4400 block of Route 17
  • York Cleaners on the 4400 block of Route 17
  • Sherwin Williams on the 4500 block of Route 17
  • Becky’s Hallmark on the 5200 block of Route 17
  • Adam’s Shoes on the 5200 block of Route 17
  • China Ocean on the 8000 block of Route 17

Russell said money and/or merchandise were stolen in each case. He is also accused of attempting to break into the Starbucks on the 4400 block of Route 17, though he did not enter that business.

YPSO Spokesperson Lt. Dennis Ivey told WYDaily in July that entry was gained to the businesses by either breaking glass on the front of the business or prying the door open.

Russell said no further information is available at this time. He said the investigation continues.
