Mid County Park, Kidsburg Project Delayed Again

Despite the progress made on Mid County Park and Kidsburg renovations, the project’s completion has again been delayed because of heavy rains.

Renovations began Jan. 22, following discussion about the project that began in January 2011. Originally, the projected completion date was Memorial Day, but in May, the date was pushed back to mid-July.

The projected completion date has now been pushed back to early August.

“This has been a good week for us; we’re catching up,” Park Administrator Nancy Ellis said Thursday.

Progress on the park office is far along and picnic shelters are fully renovated: the shelters have received new roofs and bench seating and one was enlarged. The park office, which will include bathrooms, a vending area, meeting room and two offices, is nearly complete with a few minor projects pending, Ellis said.

The former Kidsburg playground structure was removed, and the site preparations have been completed. Installation of the new structure has begun, but surfacing, such as mulch and concrete installation, were delayed by the rain.

Front parking lot improvements are scheduled for this month and are pending Kidsburg completion. Once the playground is complete, the parking lot will be resealed and stripes will be painted.

During park improvements, the back parking lot, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts and the walking trail remain open during daylight hours only. Once the park fully reopens in August, nighttime lighting will again be provided.
