Stars & Stripes Forever Reopens Near Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg Merchants Square, Williamsburg, VA 23185

Stars & Stripes Forever has reopened after the 2011 closure of the Yorktown store, this time operating out of a storefront near Colonial Williamsburg.

“We’ve had a lot of our regular customers that have been visiting us here in Williamsburg,” said Stars & Stripes Forever owner Robin McNamara. The new store opened two weeks ago at 421 Prince George Street, which formerly housed the Smithfield Ham Shoppe, after an interior renovation.

McNamara’s original store was located in Yorktown at Riverwalk Landing. That space reopened about a week ago as Water Street Grille.

McNamara said she’s been trying to open a location in Colonial Williamsburg since 1995, though until now, she couldn’t find a location there with enough space to house her business, which sells such things as clothing, jewelry, hats, ties, art, flags, home decorations, books, toys, pet accessories and educational items.

Former customers from the Yorktown location have been dropping by to say they’ve missed the store and that they’re happy it’s open again, McNamara said.

McNamara said the “We the People” collection has been doing especially well — that includes T-shirts with historical luminaries such as Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan.

“We’ve had a great response from people who are excited that we’re here,” McNamara said. “People have commented that Yorktown’s loss is Williamsburg’s gain.”

Though this is the first store front since leaving Yorktown, McNamara said she had been selling items at events around the country, including political events, gun shows and teachers’ conventions.

The new store is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
