A Yorktown woman was a big winner when the Virginia Lottery scratcher she bought turned out to be a $1 million winner.
Jazlyn Leak, a student at Thomas Nelson Community College, bought the winning ticket in the $70 Million Payout Spectacular game at the Kroger grocery store on Victory Boulevard. She scratched her ticket and “BAM! There it was,” she told Lottery officials.
Leak collected her winnings in a one-time cash payout of $642,000 before taxes. She had a choice between that and the full $1 million paid out over 25 years. Leak told Lottery officials she has no immediate plans for the money.
The store received a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
The $70 Million Payout Spectacular is one of dozens of Scratcher games available from the Virginia Lottery. It features prizes ranging from $10 all the way to $1 million. Leak is the seventh $1,000,000 winner in this game, which means just one top prize remains unclaimed.
