Along with its new status as a residence hall, the Williamsburg Hospitality House will have a new name come fall.
The College of William and Mary’s Board of Visitors announced new names for two new residence halls on its campus. The Hospitality House, which the college purchased last month for $21 million, will be called One Tribe Place starting this fall.
The Hospitality House sits on 3.6 acres on Richmond Road across from the college’s Alumni House. It has 318 rooms, 20,000-square-feet in conference space, two restaurants and 370 parking spaces. The college previously announced it would use the space for a residence hall and on-campus parking. Click here to read more on the acquisition.
The old fraternity complex, which will open to undergraduate students as three residences halls, will honor the school’s colors with its name, Green and Gold Village. The complex includes Griffin, Lion and Eagle halls.
Students participated in an online survey to aid in the old fraternity complex’s renaming process.
“Both of these names reflect institutional pride and a sense of Tribe spirit,” said Virginia Ambler, vice president for student affairs in a news release. “Having the students involved in the process of naming the Green & Gold Villlage was especially important; that residential community will represent a home away from home for a good number of next year’s freshmen.”
The Board of Visitors met Wednesday through Friday, where it also announced a landmark four-year guaranteed tuition plan for students, starting with the fall 2013 freshman class. Click here to read the WYDaily story on the announcement.
The board also voted to give merit-based salary increases to faculty, which will average to about a 6 percent increase overall. The vote came a day after the board heard the results of a survey in which faculty members expressed contentment with their jobs but dissatisfaction with their compensation.
