If you tune into the LPGA’s Kingsmill Championship from May 2 through 5, you will see a familiar name lodged among the corporate and municipal sponsors of the event: York County.
The York County Economic Development Authority voted last week to purchase a $10,000 sponsorship package for the event. That figure does not include any taxes that will be levied upon the purchase.
The Kingsmill Championship is a 72-hole tournament with a $1.3 million purse. The sponsorship puts York County in the company of other localities listed as sponsors including the city of Williamsburg, James City County and the city of Newport News.
“The general thought was it gets us some exposure,” said Jim Noel, director of York County’s Office of Economic Development. “The demographic that’s attending is a good one. Having a statement about York County being open for business doesn’t hurt.”
Noel said it is important for the county to support the event as it is the premier sporting event in Hampton Roads. Tickets to the tournament given to local businesses will allow them to network with other businesses and potential customers.
By purchasing the package, the county receives the following:
- The county’s logo will be displayed on signage at a premier hole
- The county’s logo will be on a tee fence at a premier hole
- The championship’s official website will link to York County’s website
- Ads for the county will be displayed on electronic scoreboards around the course
- 10 VIP tickets good for any day of the tournament
- 40 clubhouse wristbands, which grant access to the clubhouse and grounds for the entire tournament
- 120 grounds wristbands that are good any day of the tournament
- Two weekly sponsor parking passes
- Ten official tournament hats
