Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation will be performing maintenance work on the James River Bridge on Wednesday and Thursday nights, resulting in the closure of the northbound lanes.
The northbound lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday, and 11 p.m. Thursday until 4 a.m. Friday depending on weather, according to a VDOT news release. The bridge will only be open to southbound traffic during the closure.
Area motorists should anticipate delays and avoid the area if possible. The I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel is available as an alternate route.
