Inmate Dies at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail

An inmate was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday morning at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. He was pronounced dead by emergency personnel around 25 minutes later.

A press release from the jail said 30-year-old Jason D. Perry was found unresponsive by the officer on duty at approximately 3:55 a.m. during a routine security check. Jail staff administered CPR until emergency personnel arrived. They pronounced him dead at 4:19 a.m.

The cause of death is unknown. Jail staff are waiting for a determination from the medical examiner.

The inmate was admitted to the jail Feb. 3 after being charged with one count of petit larceny, third offense.
