City Offices Closed, Trash Affected by Holiday
The city of Williamsburg offices, along with Quarterpath Recreation Center and Waller Mill Park, will be closed Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day.
The Quarterpath Recreation Center will close at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Residents whose trash is normally picked up on Tuesdays will have garbage collected on Wednesday. Monday trash pickups and Wednesday recycling pickups will operate as scheduled.
Christmas Tree Recycling
The city will collect Christmas trees for recycling on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14.
Trees must be placed curbside before 7 a.m. The trees are ground into mulch used by the city’s Landscaping Department and also to create fish habitats at Waller Mill Park.

RSVP for First EDA Roundtable of 2013
The Economic Development Authority will host its first Business Roundtable lunch of the year on Jan. 8.
Roy Pearson, chancellor professor of business emeritus at the Mason School of Business, will speak on the economic outlook for 2013.
The lunch will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the Traditions restaurant at the Williamsburg Lodge, located at 310 South England St. The buffet style meal costs $15, including tax and gratuity.

Neighborhood Council Talks Emergency Prep on Saturday
The Neighborhood Council of Williamsburg will host emergency officials to discuss emergency preparation and shelter on Jan. 5.
Fire Chief Pat Dent and Director of Health and Human Services Peter Walentisch will be the featured speakers at the meeting, which begins at 8 a.m. in the Quarterpath Recreation Center.

City Council to Host Comp Plan Public Hearing
City Council will host a public hearing to gather input on the 2013 Comprehensive Plan on Jan. 10.
The hearing will begin at 2 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Stryker Building. The Comprehensive Plan, approved for recommendation by the Planning Commission on Dec. 19, is the long-range plan for the physical development of the city.
The plan includes proposals for future land use designations, residential density changes (including increased density in the downtown and midtown areas), potential for more housing (the city estimates room for 3,600 new dwelling units), transportation improvements and public facility improvements, including a new Stryker Center and the addition of Capitol Landing Park and College Creek parks.
