WILLIAMSBURG — After a cybersecurity incident last year, Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center upgraded its servers, software and computer hardware to better protect patient information and improve care.
The nonprofit launched a technology upgrades campaign in November that continued through Giving Tuesday and year-end charitable giving. The effort raised more than $150,000 from corporate partners and nearly 60 individual donors.
Contributors included TowneBank, the Langley Foundation and Langley Federal Credit Union.

The center began installing the new systems this winter. Officials said the upgrades will strengthen data security, improve care coordination and enhance the patient experience.
“This campaign reflects the commitment of our community to protecting and advancing access to care,” said Aaron Thompson, CEO and executive director of Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center.
Olde Towne Medical and Dental Center provides care to uninsured and underinsured residents and workers across the Greater Williamsburg region. Patients pay on a sliding scale based on income and insurance status, and no one is turned away for inability to pay.
Officials said the upgrades were necessary to prevent future disruptions and maintain patient services following last year’s incident.
