WILLIAMSBURG — Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center recently received a $10,000 grant to fund behavioral health services for uninsured and underinsured patients in the Williamsburg area.
The George J. & Effie L. Seay Foundation, with Bank of America, N.A. serving as trustee, awarded the money to support the center’s behavioral health program, which places mental health screenings, counseling and care coordination inside primary care visits, according to a news release from the organization.
Aaron Thompson, the center’s chief executive officer, said the funding, which was awarded in June, will help identify and treat mental health issues in patients who might not otherwise seek that care.
“This generous grant allows us to continue expanding access to behavioral health services for individuals and families who might otherwise go without the care they need,” Thompson said. “Mental health is health, and integrating these services into primary care helps us treat the whole person.”
Olde Towne Medical & Dental Center, founded in 1993, is the only nonprofit community health center in the Williamsburg area. It offers medical, dental, behavioral health, vision and pharmacy assistance regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. The center logs more than 13,000 patient visits a year among about 3,400 patients.
