WILLIAMSBURG — This week, Williams & Mary officially started holding classes at its Integrated Science Center Building Four, home to the School of Computing, Data Science, and Physics.

While the School of Computing, Data Science, and Physics is William & Mary’s first new school in 50 years, the departments are not. The new school began operations July 1, 2024, with students starting classes in the new ISC4 building this past week.

ISC4 is the fourth phase in the completion of the Integrated Science Center Buildings at William & Mary, a project that began with the first building, ISC1, which was completed in 2009.

The new building has a total of 35 labs, both instructional and research, over 1,024 square feet of new space, and about 10,000 square feet of renovated space that connects ISC4 to ISC1. There is also a makerspace, which will open later in the spring, and several projects are in the works involving 3D printing, microbials and AI.

The university said that it will likely be adding a bioengineering degree next fall, pending approval from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
