WILLIAMSBURG— The Williamsburg-James City County School Board passed the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget at a special meeting Tuesday, March 25.

At its March 18 meeting, adjustments were made to both revenue and expenditures in the superintendent’s proposed budget, taking into account an increase in both sales tax and special education regional revenue, bringing the total to $2.959 million. Expenditure adjustments saw a reduction in full-time bus drivers by an additional five, bringing the total to nine, and a reduction in health insurance costs — down to $1.3 million compared to the previous $2.8 million.

This put the total revised expenditure increase at $14.45 million, and adjusted the fund request from the localities to $11.49 million — $9.5 million after incorporating additional state revenue. This was compared to a previous budget proposal which would have requested a $13.9 million revenue increase from the localities.

At Tuesday’s special meeting, a motion was made to approve the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget of $212,114,730, which includes $195,232,500 for the Operating Fund; $6,768,830 for the Grants Fund, $1,330,600 for the State Operated Programs Fund, and $8,782,800 for the Child Nutrition Services Fund.

The motion carried with Daniel Cavazos, Amy Chen, Andrea Donnor, Kimberley Hundley, Randy Riffle, Sarah Ortego voting for and Michael Hosang voting against.

The next school board meeting will be held on April 1 at 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit the official school board website.
