WILLIAMSBURG— A longstanding Williamsburg tradition is marking a major milestone. The Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg will host the 60th annual Art on the Square on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Duke of Gloucester Street in Colonial Williamsburg.
The juried fine art show is expected to feature about 100 artists showcasing original, handcrafted work across a range of mediums, including pottery, paintings, jewelry and ceramics. Visitors can walk the historic street, meet artists and purchase one-of-a-kind pieces while supporting the arts.
Featured artist Gulay Berryman will return with an original painting, “The Gardens of the Lightfoot Tenement,” created for the event. The piece will be raffled off during the show, with tickets available online and at the club’s tent. Commemorative poster prints will also be available.
Proceeds from artist booth fees, raffle ticket sales and poster purchases will support visual and performing arts organizations throughout the greater Williamsburg area. Funds will also benefit the Richard E. DePaul Memorial Scholarship for Visual and Performing Arts, which assists students pursuing college degrees in the arts. Applications are open through April 12.
“We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Art on the Square,” said Kristin Barr, president of the Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg. “Art on the Square reflects the heart of our mission, bringing the community together while supporting arts programs throughout Williamsburg.”
Nora Bartlett of Walls Alive, an in-kind sponsor, will offer framing discounts on Art on the Square posters. Customers who mention the club in-store will have a portion of their purchase donated to the organization.
The event is free and open to the public. More information, including a list of participating artists, is available on the club’s website.
