
YORK COUNTY— Fire crews responded to a trash compactor fire Tuesday evening at a Lowe’s store in northern York County.
Personnel with the York County Fire Department were dispatched around 6:25 p.m. to the 800 block of East Rochambeau Drive. Upon arrival, crews located smoke and fire coming from exterior trash compactors behind the building.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and remained on scene to conduct overhaul operations to ensure it did not reignite.
Store employees evacuated the building before crews arrived. Firefighters checked the interior and confirmed there was no smoke or fire inside the store. Employees and customers were allowed to reenter shortly after.
No injuries were reported.
Mutual aid was provided by the James City County Fire Department. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
